Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Republicans won big in the state's midterm elections, flipping even the Democratic stronghold of Miami-Dade County.

Republicans made up 45% of the votes cast in Florida on Nov. 8, while Democrats made up just 33%. GOP turnout was 67% versus 52% for the Democrats, a staggering turnout gap of almost 15%.—Florida Republicans passed Democrats in voter registration numbers in 2021 and outpaced Democrats this year by 305,950 voters. Democrats held a 263,269 voter advantage in 2018. Republicans gained a net of 595,796 registered voters in the past four years, while Democrats gained 26,577.

DeSantis' strength with Hispanic voters helped him carry Miami-Dade County, a majority Hispanic county.Since March 16, 2020, an estimated 394,000 active voters have flocked to Florida. According to voter and consumer data tracking firm L2, 193,300 Republicans and 96,900 Democrats have moved to Florida in that time.
