Students are using art to influence their community. One student was voted the winner and now her design has been approved by township officials to be painted on a fence in the community.“I remember in preschool, I would just go to school and draw with my friends there and I’ve just always liked art class in school,” she said.
When her art teacher at SPLAT Studios asked her and her classmates to design murals for a fence in Derry Township, she did what she does best. Meg Walter, the owner of SPLAT Studios explained, “I knew that the fence needed to be replaced, it was an opportunity to create a canvas and to create intersections for people to come in.”
Darowish presented her idea to the township and hopes everyone that passes by it can relate to it in a different way. She described her mural, saying, “It was about community between artists and then how one artist’s idea can then transfer to another artist’s idea and how each artist looks at a new idea and takes it in a different way.”The first public mural painting opportunity will be on October 29th from noon until 5 p.m.
