Officer injured as police attacked in security alert hoax in Derry
A police officer has been injured attending a security alert in Londonderry that was later declared a hoax.When officers arrived to examine an object a group of youths threw petrol bombs, paint cans and masonry at them.Police Service of Northern Ireland Chief Inspector Moyne said: "Police received a report at approximately 7.10pm on Friday 2 June of a suspicious object that had been left in the area.
"Ammunition Technical Officers attended and assessed the object," which was removed for further examination, he added. Police declared the alert a hoax. They said an investigation was under way and have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
