Dept of Basic Education proposes grades 7 and 12 reopen next week | Day34ofLockdown
Parliament - If things went according to the wishes of the Department of Basic Education, schools should reopen next week, with teachers returning on May 4 and pupils two days later, on May 6.The department was supposed to host a media briefing on Monday, but that has now been delayed with plans to update the public later this week.
She also said the department has held meetings with the nine Education MECs, five teacher unions, association of school governing bodies and civil society bodies. Mhaule stated that the date for re-opening has to change but principals are returning to look at things that would be needed when they ultimately reopened."We should not compromise lives. Life is more important than the academic year. We understand that at the department," Mhaule added.* Physical distancing in classes, including not more than two pupils sharing a desk.* Cloth masks would be worn by pupils and teachers at all times.
