Nearly two dozen House and Senate Democrats asked Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts to launch an investigation into Associate Justice Clarence Thomas.

Driving the news:, the Democrats — led by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse and Rep. Hank Johnson — wrote that he should launch a "swift, thorough, independent and transparent investigation" to fulfill his duty to "safeguard public faith in the judiciary."

The lawmakers wrote that the investigation should look into whether individuals "with interests related to Justice Thomas’s official duties" joined the trips.on Thursday – with two House progressives going so far as to call for Thomas to be impeached.
