Allegheny County lawmaker Sara Innamorato, who won the Democratic nomination for Allegheny County executive in the spring primary, resigned from her House seat effective Wednesday.

Rep. Sara Innamorato, D-Allegheny County, resigned from her 21st state House District seat on Wednesday. She is the Democratic nominee in the race for Allegheny County executive that has her as the favored candidate to win. Her departure from the House leaves the chamber with a 101-101 divide until a special election is held in September.

Rep. Sara Innamorato submitted her one-sentence resignation letter to House Speaker Joanna McClinton, D-Philadelphia, on Wednesday.
