Demands for Liz Truss to scrap 'catastrophic' benefits cap that hits 4,000 Scots families
Liz Truss has been called on to scrap the “truly catastrophic” benefit cap that has will leave claimants an average £65 a week worse off.
Around 4,000 of the 120,000 households whose benefits are already capped are in Scotland and will not see any rise when benefits are increased in line with the current inflation rate. He said: “The cost of living crisis exposes just how vulnerable the arbitrary benefit cap leaves children." It would cost £500 million to remove the cap, just 0.2 per cent of total spending on social security, according to the Child Poverty Action Group.
