The campus says the reasons for the decline are not entirely clear but are due, in part, to a fall off in the number of foreign students seeking admission.
After 20 years of explosive growth, the number of students seeking to enroll as freshman this fall at UC San Diego has taken a slight dip for reasons that are not fully understood by the university.applications, a decline of 396 over the previous year. The change was especially noticeable because last year’s figure was almost 13,000 higher than it was for fall 2021.
“There could be a number of reasons for this decline, and without speaking with students on why they may have decided not to apply to UC San Diego, we speculate there may be growing interest in attending colleges and universities in their home countries, geopolitical considerations, some on-going COVID-19 travel restrictions, etc.
