Toronto Police duty Insp. Ryan Forde, when asked, could not say whether the shooting was targeted or not, but said at least 11 shell casings were found along the northwest side of Steeles just west of Pine Valley Dr.
“Toronto Police responded to a radio call for a shooting Steeles Ave. W and Pine Valley Dr.,” said Forde. “Simultaneously, York Region police service responded to a weapons call at 14600 Steeles Ave. W.”Forde said arriving officers “rendered aid to this male, but unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries and he is now deceased.”Article contentThe gun and gangs unit was called in along with the Toronto Police homicide squad to investigate.
Casey Balsamo of Vince’s Pet Supply store — located in a long strip mall east of Islington — said his outside surveillance camera caught the final moments of the van coming to a rest on the sidewalk.“There was a vehicle up on the curb, the window smashed on the passenger side,” said Balsamo. “The door was open and he was on the asphalt.
