As many Anchorage residents noticed, there were fewer items in grocery stores this past weekend. Much of that can likely be blamed on a cargo ship carrying grocery items that experienced a mechanical delay.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -

The cargo on the ship was scheduled to arrive at the Don Young Port of Alaska in Anchorage on May 28. The port receives four cargo deliveries a week — two from TOTE and two from Matson. TOTE delivers its cargo every Tuesday and Sunday.Fred Meyers representatives said that most of their cargo comes from TOTE Maritime. They also work with Lynden Inc. to transport their groceries across the state. The stores depend on the cargo and deliveries because they do not have a warehouse to store goods.
