Deflated Mosimane still in line for another Fifa medal

On Wednesday, Chelsea edged Al Ahli 1-0 through a Romelu Lukaku strike to set up a decider with the Brazilian powerhouse, that Al Ahly beat to bronze during last year’s Club World Cup edition in Qatar. Mosimane had fancied his team’s chances in the tournament, but a clash between the global club championship and the Afcon stood in the way of a possible dream final against Chelsea.

Al Ahly had five of their players in their Egypt national team who finished as runners-up to Senegal in the Afcon final in Cameroon last Sunday. Among Mosimane’s stars were number one goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy and prolific attacker Mohamed Sherif. The quintet only joined their club mates in the UAE on the eve of Al Ahly’s clash with Palmeiras on Tuesday.

Not one to hide his feelings, Mosimane lashed out at Fifa and CAF for being inconsiderate in their scheduling of competitions. “CAF and Fifa arrange games on top of each other.
