— Iloilo governor-elect and 3rd District Rep. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. vowed to go beyond good governance which was championed by his father and outgoing Gov. Arthur “Art” Defensor Sr.
Iloilo governor-elect and 3rd District Rep. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. is welcomed by employees at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol. “Good governance is not an ultimate goal. Good governance is a standard expected from everybody,” Defensor emphasized. The younger Defensor defeated 4th District Rep. Ferj Biron for provincial governor by garnering 479,081 winning votes or a margin of 87,678 votes. The huge margin was a surprise as Biron had a well-oiled campaign and was supported by political families from four of the province’s five districts.“Despite the money and black propaganda, I still won. People don’t need money from politicians. It is overrated,” Defensor expressed.
The governor-elect noted how people look at how they can avail of basic government services or opportunities to improve their lives. “What they want are jobs, medical assistance, roads, or other infrastructure projects,” Rep. Defensor added.
