On a team looking to bump its defensive cred, rookie Jeff Dowtin Jr. could be on the verge of earning himself a contract.
It’s no secret the team’s defence has been the biggest factor in its disappointing play for much of the season.
“I think that both Malachi and Dalano have been decent at times, but I’m just kind of looking to see if we can’t upgrade there a little bit and see how it looks.” It was his defence then that got him the opportunity and it’s his defence now that is providing another one.Article content“He’s just really good defensively,” Nurse said. “He does it on the ball, he does it with his hands, he does it with his feet and he does it off the ball.”
To date, both Flynn and Etobicoke native Dalano Banton have seen more of the floor than Dowtin, who has been up and down with the G-League team after splitting nine games last season between Golden State, Orlando and Milwaukee.Advertisement 5“I think from what I’ve seen so far Jeff has certainly had a little bit more size and strength over Malachi and that’s about it,” he said.
Flynn has been up and down from some solid shooting nights and good minutes getting the offence set up, to nights when nothing seems to be working for him.
