Trial of Krysta Grimes will continue in Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court Thursday
Teacher Krysta Grimes prepares to leave a St. John's courtroom with her lawyer, Rosellen Sullivan, after the first day of her trial Wednesday, Jan. 11.ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The lawyer for a St. John’s high school teacher charged with sexually exploiting a student questioned the lead police investigator Wednesday, Jan. 11, suggesting the charge had been laid after a flawed investigation based on widespread rumours.
Grimes has been suspended from her position with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District pending the outcome of her trial. Krysta Grimes was accompanied by her defence lawyer Rosellen Sullivan in N.L. Supreme Court on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, for the start of her five-day trial on charges of sexually exploiting a student in 2018 while she was in a position of trust. - Saltwire Network Photo
The mother of one of them refused to provide police with his phone number, and the other boy told investigators his involvement with Grimes was just gossip, Percey testified. “It seemed very clear that this was widely the subject of conversation and it was a joke,” Sullivan said. “There was a pattern of these rumours going back six years. At any point did it occur to you that this is all it was?”
