Two-time WNBA All-Star Dearica Hamby claims her former team, the Las Vegas Aces, handled her pregnancy in a disrespectful manner.
Dearica Hamby, who won a WNBA championship with the Las Vegas Aces in 2022, claims that the team “discriminated against” her during her pregnancy., along with a 2024 first-round pick, in exchange for former New York Liberty standout Amanda Zahui B., and a 2024 second-rounder.
Hamby took to her official Instagram to speak on the move, thanking Aces fans but then going at the team’s management for their handling of her situation. “Being traded is part of the business. Being lied to, bullied, manipulated, and discriminated against is not,” Hamby wrote. “I was promised things to entice me to sign my contract extension that was not followed through on. I was accused of signing my extension while pregnant. This is false. I was told I was ‘a question mark.'”
She added, “I was asked if I planned my pregnancy. When I responded, ‘no,’ I was then told that I ‘was not taking precautions to not get pregnant.’ I was being traded because ‘I wouldn’t be ready and we need bodies.’ I planned to play this season, and I have expressed my desire to play this season.”
