KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya stated that the MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, received a report update indicating that preliminary investigations revealed the taxi was travelling from Qumbu to Johannesburg. Sibiya also mentioned that the Road Traffic Inspectorate team is collaborating with the Road Traffic Management Corporation to determine the cause of the crash. \On 4 January 2024, the IPSS Medical Rescue team was summoned to the scene after receiving requests for assistance from EMRS, following reports that the bus had lost control while travelling on P100 in Ndwedwe, KwaZulu-Natal, has resulted in one fatality. Four individuals sustained moderate injuries, while 50 others experienced minor injuries. All patients were transported to healthcare facilities for further treatment. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, with police looking into the matter. Initial reports suggest that brake failure may have caused the bus to overturn.
