A disturbing scene unfolded on Cayman Beach in Gordon’s Bay as several dead piglets and calves washed up onto the shore over the weekend, reportsGordon’s Bay resident Nico van Niekerk claims to have stumbled upon the unsettling site when he visited the beach around 12pm on Friday morning.

He confirms that there had been about seven or eight piglets on the beach, which he suspects had been washed down from the canal. The Helderberg division of the Animal Welfare Society has since collected the dead animals. The AWS manager, Julia Evans, suspects that the piglets initially came from the Vlakteplaas, as she explains there are a lot of animals located there due to major work involving the river, which runs from the area into the sea.

Evans further stated that she had previously been called to the site because of a sow which had given birth on the banks and resulted in piglets landing in the water.Locals in the area took to Facebook to share their concerns.‘It looks like they may have been stillborn and were thrown into the river, sadly.
