The future of Oceanside was never explained in The Walking Dead's finale, but the information has finally been revealed in the show's sequel.
The Walking Dead’s final episode left several of the series’ biggest questions unanswered, and one of the most important things that audiences still want to know is exactly what happened to Oceanside. The camp was a walled fishing village in Virginia that played a large role throughout the series, with several important characters spending time there in search of refuge and supplies.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Eugene briefly mentioned the settlement’s name towards the end of The Walking Dead. However, it wasn’t clear whether Oceanside was still standing or if it had been completely destroyed like many other camps.
In the show, a character named Ginny is introduced as Negan’s young sidekick - and she soon admits to having spent her younger years at Oceanside. Looking at the precise timeline of the show, Ginny’s childhood will have been long after the main series’ conclusion. As a result, the character's inclusion confirms that Oceanside still exists in some capacity, finally providing the answer to one of the franchise's biggest hitherto unresolved mysteries.
1 Oceanside Mystery Still Remains In The Walking Dead Although information about Ginny’s childhood confirms that Oceanside still exists, there’s still nothing to be confirmed about whether it’s the same place that it was in The Walking Dead. Maggie still calls her community Hilltop despite having moved far away from the original hills in which it was located, so it’s entirely possible that Oceanside did the same thing.
Oceanside having relocated would also explain how the two communities are able to share members so easily and maintain such strong communications. If they both moved further north away from the main source of danger, travel between the two camps would be much easier. This suggests that Oceanside’s potentially new design could even appear in later episodes of The Walking Dead: Dead City, providing further answers post-The Walking Dead.
