Authorities are set to probe whether there is a link between the fire that broke out in the Old Assembly in March 2021 and the blaze that swept through the very same building on Sunday.

Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Patricia de Lille said she is perusing reports pertaining to the 2021 blaze to assess the progress made in implementing their recommendations.Speaking during a media briefing, she said she would assess the progress made in implementing the recommendations following last year’s fire.

“Once I have compiled that report, I will present it to you Madam Speaker later during the day,” De Lille said, adding: We cannot speculate that there is a link between the first and second fire until we have all our facts together.confirmed that the reports following the 2021 fire at the Old Assembly were presented to the presiding officers.

“This report was presented to the joint standing committee on oversight of parliament. The recommendations of the report are being implemented,” she told the media.Parliament is not only a national key point but also a heritage site.Firefighters have struggled to contain the blaze, which broke out in the Old Assembly early on Sunday morning. The authorities were first alerted to the fire at 5:03am.
