Ben Affleck won't be returning as Batman in DC Studios' new DC Universe, but his Caped Crusader had already been failed many times in the DCEU.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Ben Affleck's Batman was cut from several DCEU projects, highlighting a key element in the downfall of Warner Bros.' live-action superhero franchise. Ben Affleck debuted as Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. Batman, in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, portraying the Dark Knight in the Zack Snyder-led film opposite Henry Cavill's Superman.

Batman was introduced into DC Comics back in 1939's Detective Comics #27, making him one of DC's longest-running and most prevalent heroes. The Dark Knight has been adapted into live-action several times, but it was up to Ben Affleck to bring the billionaire vigilante to life in the DCEU. After appearing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Affleck made an uncredited appearance in 2016's Suicide Squad before bringing the titular team together in 2017's Justice League.

2017's Justice League's original post-credits scene teased Joe Manganiello's Deathstroke as the villain for Ben Affleck's solo Batman project. Unfortunately, this project was canceled, and the stinger was cut - though it was included in Zack Snyder's Justice League.

Why The DCEU's Superman Cameos Made Its Batman Cuts Worse Instead of featuring cameo appearances from Ben Affleck's Batman to connect projects in the DCEU, Warner Bros. scrambled to integrate Henry Cavill's Superman into various projects, leading to some weird moments.
