D.C. police said two men were dead and three others were hospitalized following a shootout Wednesday night in Northeast.
Acting Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith said the shooting erupted around 9:50 p.m. at the intersection of 14th Street and Saratoga Avenue NE.
Responding officers found two male victims dead at the scene. A third man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. Chief Smith said two other men transported themselves to a hospital and one of them was in critical condition. The chief said the shooting stemmed from an argument between two “crews,” or neighborhood gangs.
“We’re having these crew-on-crew, senseless arguments where firearms are being introduced,” Chief Smith said. The quintuple shooting came a day after the District recorded its 200th homicide of the year — the earliest the city has reached that milestone since 1997. Homicides are up 37% over last year.
