DC TV Chair Channing Dungey reveals a new animation deal with Amazon is in the works 👀 'HBO Max is the first stop but we are in the process of closing a big deal with Amazon featuring DC branded content in animation.' 😱

A new DC Universe animation deal with Amazon is in the works, reveals Warner Bros. TV executive Channing Dungey, teasing a massive new collaboration between the two companies. 2022 has been a big year for the DC brand as Warner Bros. Discover's merger caused a change to the status quo. While several DC-based projects have been canceled, the studio is not giving up on the brand but rather revamping its strategy as they bring more superheroes and villains to life.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY With Warner Bros. Discovery looking to merge HBO Max and Discovery Plus as one streaming service, it appears DC animated projects will have a new home. Dungey, who has served as the CEO and chairwoman of Warner Bros. TV since 2020, revealed at an event in London via Deadline that a massive deal with Amazon is in the works. According to the Warner Bros. TV executive, the studio is looking to sign a new deal with Amazon that revolves around DC animated products.

With animation we used to be about staying in-house but now we are doing it on different platforms. HBO Max is the first stop but we are in the process of closing a big deal with Amazon featuring DC branded content in animation. How This Fits Into James Gunn & Peter Safran's DC Studios Plan With HBO Max and Discovery Plus being one shared streaming service as of next year, there has been a lot of speculation on what will happen with DC projects, both live-action and animated.

However, the new deal with Amazon can come to play a major role as it becomes part of the overall plans for DC Studios. According to Gunn, a big desire for DC is to have animated projects tie into the larger franchise, as he and Safran are currently working out the 10-year plan for the DCU. While HBO Max has grown as a platform over the last few years, having a larger home with Amazon through Prime Video will be a far bigger reach for DC animated projects in comparison.

It's also key to remember that the new collaboration between Warner Bros. TV and Amazon will likely also mean DC animated projects that aren't necessarily tied to the DCU. In the end, it will be a bit of both, but still a huge step forward for animated properties based on DC Comics. What this means for DC TV shows on Cartoon Network, however, remains to be seen, as that has been an active home for them for decades. Hopefully, once the deal between Warner Bros.
