ITV1's new dating series is much more than just a 'middle-aged Love Island' giving midlifers another chance at love - all thanks to their children

Even if it’s made by the same production company.“Aside from the fact that a group of single people are living under the same roof, the comparisons end there,” says executive producer Ami Jackson. “The parents are all in mid-life, so they have a more grown-up approach to dating. They’re relatable people with funny and heartbreaking stories to tell who are allowing us to laugh with them and cry with them as they try to navigate dating later in life.” She’s right.
“I wanted to see midlife represented in terms of dating. In your forties and fifties it’s usually your second time looking for love. You’ve got children, life is complicated, but more than ever you feel that you are at a point in your life where you deserve to find love.” says McCall. She knows a thing or two about dipping back into the dating pool in mid-life; in 2017, aged 50, McCall separated from her husband of 17 years, and is now in a new relationship with her boyfriend, Michael Douglas .
“One of the most moving things that emerged,” adds McCall, who has three children with her ex-husband, “was this idea that, as a child, you can’t move on with your life until you feel that your parent is happy. The kids are phenomenally adult about the situation; we could learn a lot from how understanding they are. I worried if they were going to take it seriously and if it would really matter to them. In reality, it mattered more than anything.
