Paul Faloon had been due to take charge of today's game at Páirc Esler but the defending champions objected to his appointment
This afternoon’s eagerly-anticipated Down SFC final between Kilcoo and Burren is expected to draw a huge crowd to Páirc Esler, but there’s been drama before throw-in with the news that Meath’s David Gough is set to take charge of today’s decider.
When that was rejected, the defending champions brought a case to the Disputes Resolution Authority .However, despite the DRA also rejecting their case, it is understood that Faloon has been stood down from today’s game. He is no longer listed as the referee on Down GAA’s website and it remains to be seen what role, if any, he’ll play in today’s game.
Widely regarded as one of the best referees in Ireland, the Meath native took charge of this year’s All-Ireland SFC final when Dublin defeated Kerry at Croke Park back in July. It has also been confirmed that Kilcoo were unsuccessful in an appeal against Niall Branagan’s red card from their semi-final win over Clonduff and he’ll miss today’s final.
