England's Women fell just short of World Cup glory as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Spain in Sunday's final
Manchester United icon David Beckham has thanked the Lionesses for inspiring the next generation after their heartbreaking World Cup final loss to Spain on Sunday.
Olga Carmona scored the winning goal just before the half hour mark thanks to a low drive beyond the reach of United's Mary Earps. The eventual Golden Glove winner kept her side in the tie with 20 minutes remaining as she saved Jennifer Hermoso's spot kick. Posting on his Instagram story, the current Inter Miami owner shared an image of the England team with the caption: "We win as a team and we lose as a team but what you Lionesses have done, and continue to do, is inspire the next generation. Thank you."
