The Dash were attempting to pick up another clean sheet after taking down Kansas City and Orlando by the same 2-0 score. However, Houston did extend its unbeaten streak against Gotham FC to four games after sweeping them last season and picked up a point for a total of 16 in the standings, two behind fifth-place Gotham FC.
Two minutes after a hydration break, Michelle Alozie received a pass to the right side in open space and dribbled just inside the box before finding Sánchez, who tapped it in from close range to give the Dash a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute. Lynn Williams nearly scored from close range early in the second half, but Sophie Schmidt soon conceded a penalty after fouling Kristie Mewis, allowing Williams to tie the game from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute and collect her team-leading sixth goal.
