“I came from a child and adolescent background and was looking to do more work in adult mental health and addictions. It was by happenstance, I was like, approached and I said yeah I’d be interested in applying and it was through relationships that I was able to secure and went through the interview process through HR and got a position in the mental health and addiction portfolio.”
“ somebody from my community is there and I don’t have to go back to explaining myself over time. So there’s some cutting through the fat, to get to some truth-telling and to some supports that may be needed.” The African Nova Scotian job fair idea came out of a committee that Cheng, MacLean and others at Dartmouth General formed to address inclusion and diversity challenges.“We know that African Nova Scotians often have poorer health outcomes and we know that our health-care system is not a very diverse health-care system.”
