WINNIPEG — The Calgary Stampeders weren’t interested in talking about moral victories.
The Bombers d-line is just ridiculous. They come at you from all angles and, in Willie Jefferson, they have a guy who can change a game on any play. The Calgary crew had allowed only four sacks through four games this season heading into Friday. They allowed four sacks against the Bombers. So yeah, they doubled their season total. Mitchell had a whole lot of plays where he was under pressure outside of the sacks, too.
First, Carey took off for a 29-yard run that placed the Stamps on the Bombers’ 7-yard line. They tried to throw the ball to Reggie Begelton and Kamar Jorden on consecutive plays, both resulted in incompletions. They settled for a field goal. One way or another, the Stamps’ failure to get into the endzone on two straight drives was disastrous.
A couple times this season, I’ve walked out of a stadium with a reporter from another city and they’ve said, “Ka’Deem Carey is the best running back in the league.”He did take a bad penalty for spiking the ball and having it hit the referee in the fourth quarter, but there easily could have been a penalty on Bombers linebacker Adam Bighill for the tackle that immediately preceded that play.
There was also a contacting-the-kicker penalty by Charlie Moore that gave the Bombers a new set of downs and set up a touchdown for the Bombers, so it wasn’t all good.Article content
