Ribble Valley planning applications round-up - from 'dangerous' church and historic pub facelift

Each week, Lancashire's councils deal with a wide range of planning application ranging from small household extensions to major developments and changes to buildings of historical importance.

This week is no different, with developers hoping to open new stores and businesses as well as create more housing through the loss of pubs, restaurants and guest houses. As always, the plans are open to public consultation so affected residents and business owners can have their say by contacting the relevant local authority's planning department.

This week we take a look at some of the applications registered and determined by Ribble Valley Borough Council. They include plans to carry out repairs on a historic church where masonry is 'potentially dangerous', a facelift for an iconic pub and bosses of a popular restaurant being refused permission for a new sign.

Documents submitted with the application reveal the pub has a damp problem with much of the existing render loose from the stonework. The work would involve removing the render and carrying out repairs to the stonework which will be left exposed.

The latest application, which reduced the size of the sign from 6 metres to four metres, would involve messages changing 'no more than every 10 seconds' but the plans have been refused by the council on the same grounds and that they 'would largely be at odds with the existing smaller signage in the area'.
