Multiple local media outlets had previously reported on Thursday that Barry had suffered complications following hip surgery and was unresponsive.
Reports that Australian entertainer Barry Humphries is in an "unresponsive" state at St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney have been denied by the hospital.
The 89 year old, best known for his on-stage and television alter egos Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson, as well as Sandy Stone, has been a prominent figure in the British comedy scene, alongside Dudley Moore, Alan Bennett and Spike Milligan, since he moved to London in 1959. A family statement previously issued to the Sydney Morning Herald thanked fans and hospital staff for their “support and good wishes”.
Despite the challenges, he was determined to get back on his feet in time for his upcoming tour in Australia later this year. He had been undergoing intense and painful sessions with a physiotherapist at the hospital's rehabilitation facility to aid his recovery.
