Bart Bevers will be the city's first Inspector General, a position created in December to crack down on city corruption.
The recommendations are among several in an 18-page report released Monday by Dallas’ Ethics Reform Task Force, which has been ordered by Mayor Eric Johnson since 2019 to review the city’s ethics code and come up with ways to strengthen the rules, oversight and complaint process.Johnson noted that setting up the new office would be among the biggest tasks facing Bevers.
Currently, complaints are filed with the city secretary’s office and called in to the auditor’s office. But neither of those offices examines the claims, so complainants must investigate and present their cases to the ethics advisory commission.
