More than 17,000 people cast ballots for runoff elections in Dallas County.

, when 4% of more than 391,000 eligible registered voters participated. That year featured two Dallas City Council races as well as contests for seats on the boards for Richardson ISD and Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD.

“If you get mid-single digit turnout in the general election, you’re typically going to get less than that in the runoff,” said Cal Jillson, a Southern Methodist University political science professor. “Oftentimes, the most involved constituents have an outsized influence on the outcomes and more folks tend to come out for school district board races.”

Nic Solorzano, a spokesman for the Dallas County Elections Department, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.
