The city of Dallas has started repairs to fix a massive water leak that took months to find and has possibly been a problem for years.
South DallasA viral video shared on social media by Alexander Neal, who is a water resource professional, brought the issue to the public's attention.
"For the last several years, I had been aware that there was something suspicious going back around there concerning possibly a leak or some strange phenomenon with water," he said. "I went out there for the first time on Sunday and I saw it with my own eyes. My jaw dropped when I saw that." The city says that they estimate about 12,000 gallons of water leaked per day , totaling up to 3.6 million gallons since October 2022.
"Due to the complexity of these system adjustments, it took several months to pinpoint the leak and isolate the location. The leak detection and isolation process has been completed, and work to repair this line will begin today," the city said in part in a statement.
