Euro/dollar had been almost flatlining for much of 2019 and now appears to have broken decisively lower.The yen’s retreat was fuelled in part by a sudden reversal of safety plays surrounding the virus outbreak and reports of big Japanese investors moving offshore.
Trump has frequently protested against dollar strength over the past couple of years, accusing Europe, Japan and other countries of artificially weakening their currencies for trade advantage. However, Washington state lawmakers moved on Wednesday to remove a key tax break for Boeing and other aerospace companies in a bid to head off European tariffs on U.S. goods and ease the dispute over aircraft subsidies.
