Dahmer is being criticised by murder victims families for failing to consult them about their loved ones. But Netflix is not the first to fail at this hurdle.
Lindsey was just 19 years old when he was killed in April 1991, and was remembered as a bright soul by loved ones, having a particularly close bond with his mother and sister. He was identified by dental records as one of the skulls Dahmer had kept, having destroyed the rest of his body.
This is, naturally, an upsetting subject and a traumatic event for the family at large, with Eric Perry speaking for the family by adding on Twitter:"Like recreating my cousin having an emotional breakdown in court in the face of the man who tortured and murdered her brother is WILD. WIIIIIILD." Technically, the team don't have to as court reports, video recordings and news are all in the public domain. Basically, if it's public record, it's open season, and the families who have been through an event similar to this are unlikely to even be compensated for the use of their life story.
