Claire Scanlon, 38, is accused of beating her son Dylan before poisoning him to death with antidepressants, which she denies
The dad of a five-year-old boy allegedly beaten before being poisoned to death with antidepressants by his mother has recounted the moment she rang him and told him that he was 'not breathing' and was 'turning blue.'
He said throughout their relationship there were 'ups and downs' and arguments, and that he left the family home and moved in with his parents between Christmas and New Year 2020 after a row over him going to the shop to buy her a packet of cigarettes. 'I had had enough' he said. The court was played a number of voicemails she left him in the weeks leading up to Dylan's death. Asked if these 'alarmed' him Mr Keenan said: "It was just Claire being Claire." He said he last saw his son the day before his fifth birthday in September 2021.
Mr Keenan said at around 6pm on New Year's Eve, December 31 2021, he was in his car driving to his partner's when he received a call from Ms Scanlon. However, he said when he arrived emergency services were already on the scene and he wasn't allowed access to the property. Louise Blackwell KC, defending Ms Scanlon, said to Mr Keenan during cross-examination that 'it was quite clear' in some of the voicemails she left him that 'she was not able to cope.'
