Cameron criticised the political manoeuvring and interference that have marred the investigation, emphasising the need for a dedicated team to swiftly address the situation. John Steenhuisen, the leader of the DA, highlighted the Cold Case Unit’s repository of highly skilled police professionals, emphasising their expertise in tackling cases like Joshlin’s disappearance. He lamented the situation, attributing the case’s stagnation to political interference.
Four individuals, among them Joshlin’s mother, have been apprehended in relation to her disappearance. They are accused of kidnapping and human trafficking for exploitation. The suspects are scheduled to appear in the Vredenburg Magistrates’ Court on 15 July. In a separate incident last year, the unit swiftly arrested Werner de Jager, De Jager’s husband, within a mere two weeks of investigation. The body of De Jager was discovered on her property in Amanzimtoti on 13 October 2021, shortly after the respected NG Kerk Suidkus reverend returned from her morning run.
