In a bid to retain power in the City of Tshwane, the DA has interviewed three potential candidates for the position of mayor-elect, with the successful candidate expected to be announced on Monday. Council speaker Katlego Mathebe is the firm favourite

A source close to the matter told City Press that council speaker Katlego Mathebe, DA Tshwane regional chairperson and former acting mayor Abel Tau, and councillor Randall Williams were the DA candidates interviewed by the party’s election panel for the position of mayor-elect.

Mathebe is the firm favourite and has been making headlines recently for being outspoken and stern, even when confronted by the EFF and the ANC, which have been attempting to oust Mokgalapa. The most recent instance was when Mokgalapa was placed on leave after an audio clip emerged of him allegedly having sex with former roads and transport member of the mayoral council Sheila Senkubuge.
