DA leader John Steenhuisen visited Ekurhuleni’s Modder East substation which has in the past caught fire and left residents without power.

“The DA has a plan to fix South Africa’s electricity woes, but we need a clear mandate in municipalities across the country in this election,” Steenhuisen said.

She said what plagued the municipality was corruption and the lack of qualified public servants who can work to solve the electricity problems. She was previously a councillor in Ekurhuleni. “The crux of the matter lies in the finances of the municipality. I have been talking about the electricity issues in the city because I think it is the catalyst to ensuring that the metro works and attracts business,” N'tsekhe said.

“The stormwater drainage in this city is also an issue. I cannot remember the last time maintenance was done to the system,” she said.
