The DA is hoping to secure at least 11 cabinet posts including either the position of Deputy President or Minister in the Presidency.
JOHANNESBURG - While the focus appears to be purely on negotiations for ministerial positions in the Government of National Unity the Democratic Alliance is also gunning for control of the administration in key departments.
In a leaked letter to the African National Congress’s Secretary General Fikile Mbalula penned by DA’s Federal Council Chairperson Helen Zille dated 23 June which Eyewitness News has seen the party sets out its preferences. The DA is seemingly leaving nothing to chance when it comes to concerns over cadre deployment in a letter to the ANC.
On Sunday the party made it clear it wants a complete overhaul of departments that will be allocated to its leaders. It further said that it will set up selection panels in picking DGs who will serve DA-run departments, which will be done with the approval of the president. It suggested that contracts of all current DGs must be reconsidered, arguing that the incumbents might not be amenable to directions coming from DA ministers.
