JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance described the promulgation of the Basic Education Laws Amendment Act as a win-win for all parties following the endorsement of the Act by the Government of National Unity 's clearing house.

The party expressed its confidence in Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube, to develop guidelines that will regulate the implementation of the statute. The former opposition party emphasised that it will continue defending the right to mother tongue education.DA Spokesperson Willie Aucamp said that the party’s insistence for guardrails to be put in place by a DA minister has been vindicated.

“The Democratic Alliance has got full confidence in Minister Siviwe Gwarube’s ability to introduce fit-for-purpose guidelines that will protect school autonomy from subversion." “The fact that a sober-minded DA minister is tasked with this critical work is a vindication of the DA’s role within the GNU as the champion of constitutional rights, including the right to mother tongue education.”
