The DA's loss in a by-election to the Freedom Front Plus in Limpopo on Wednesday may signify the party has not fully recovered from its electoral bleeding of white Afrikaans voters, which was witnessed in 2019. This was according to elections monitoring expert, Dawie Scholtz, who told News24 that a sample of a series of by-elections this year, held in white Afrikaans suburbs, showed the FF-Plus was on an upward trajectory.
The DA lost a ward in Bela-Bela, Limpopo, which the party had won in the 2021 municipal elections. The FF-Plus gained 58.35% in a voter turnout of 42.49%.
