Quarterbacks Jordan Ta'amu of the D.C. Defenders and Luis Perez of the Arlington Renegades will take center stage during the XFL championship in the Alamodome.
WASHINGTON, DC - MARCH 12: Jordan Ta'amu #10 of the DC Defenders carries the ball against the Vegas Vipers during the second half of the XFL game at Audi Field on March 12, 2023 in Washington, DC. As Jordan Ta’amu was deciding whether to return to the USFL for another run in 2023 or jump to a fresh opportunity with the XFL, he issued an ultimatum.
“I just felt like my time is up here, and I definitely want to go back to the XFL, where I felt some respect,” Ta’amu said. “I was getting paid the same as the long snapper. It just didn’t feel right, where I was getting beat up every weekend, taking the most sacks, but finishing with the most yards.”
Ta’amu now has the chance to add one more accolade to his sterling season, as the D.C. Defenders face the Arlington Renegades in the XFL championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Alamodome. Arlington’s offense during the regular season ranked seventh in the league, better than only San Antonio, but a midseason trade for quarterback Luis Perez sparked a turnaround.
Perez is a spring football journeyman, as the product of then-Division II Texas A&M-Commerce has played in the Alliance of American Football, the 2020 XFL, the Spring League and the USFL before returning to the XFL this season.
