Ethan Anderson, Cy-Fair, beat Dimitrios Katsigiannis of Katy,The Cypress Ranch girls and Katy boys wrestling teams will take repeat Region III-6A championships to next week's state tournament, both winning classifications to finish atop the standings Saturday at the Merrell Center.
Cy Ranch got rolling early, with Arianna Beltran-Villalobos winning the 100-pound final in a 7-1 decision and Alejandra Mezano-Garza earning a bronze medal in the 107 weight class. Cy Ranch qualified nine wrestlers for state, including Brayden Grier in the boys 190 class and Kohen Coffman in the boys 138. Five return to state, with Beltran and Coffman reaching the quarterfinals last year.
Rodney Trotter closed the meet with the 285-pound championship, earning a pin at the 3:17 mark. He won the state title in the same bracket last year.
