Police and paramedics scrambled to Ayr Road in the East Renfrewshire town at around 12.35pm. The road was closed for around six hours before reopening on Wednesday evening.

A cyclist is fighting for his life after being hit by a bus in Newton Mearns this afternoon, Wednesday March 6.

The cyclist, a 63-year-old man, was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment where his condition is described as critical.
