For the first time in six months, the Cy-Fair Helping Hands community food pantry did not have cereal to include in client family bags. Earlier this year, Salyards Middle School collected 1,000 cereal boxes for the CFHH pantry.Cy-Fair Helping Hands is in need of more volunteers and donations after seeing a sharp increase in clients.
“The number of people needing help is going up, but the number of people able to help has decreased,” said Janet Ryan, the nonprofit’s executive director. “So, we are low on food, money, you name it, we're low on it. Our financial donations have decreased and that’s because a lot of people have been affected by the cost of everything going up.”Ryan said the nonprofit’s food pantry had an approximate 20 percent increase in clients over the last six months.
“That has also made a difference,” Ryan said. “We are receiving a lot of requests for DoorDash because it's giving people who don't have transportation an option.”Ryan said funds, food pantry supplies and volunteers are paramount to keeping up with the steadily increasing requests heading into the holiday season.
