CLEVELAND, Ohio – After eight months serving as Cuyahoga County’s interim sheriff, Steven Hammett gave his two weeks’ notice on Monday.
His last day in the role will be Feb. 17, he said in a departmental notice shared with county staff Monday morning. “Please be advised that after much contemplation, I have decided to resign from the position as sheriff of this agency,” Hammett wrote in the memo.“I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your dedication and professionalism during my tenure,” he wrote. “It has truly been an honor to serve you all.”. He has been with the department since September 2021, previously serving as captain, and has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience.
