A curving tower of offices and apartments, along with two nearby housing highrises, could transform downtown San Jose’s box-like skyline.
SAN JOSE — A curving tower of offices and homes, along with two nearby housing highrises, are poised to transform and reshape downtown San Jose’s boxy skyline in the wake of different approvals by city officials.
Westbank and Urban Community hope that the unique look and feel of the combination office and housing tower, which is known as Energy Hub, will help attract tech and other companies to downtown San Jose. “In addition to designing extraordinary work environments where we believe employees will excel, we are equally committed to building housing that is within walking distance to these office projects,” Dillabough said.
The two residential towers along East San Salvador Street between South Second Street and South Third Street would both be 21 stories high. One tower would contain 150 apartments. The other tower would accommodate 149 apartments. Together, the two towers would have six ground-floor retail and restaurant spaces that would total a combined 6,700 square feet.
At the end of November, city officials approved The Orchard Residential, a 30-story housing tower with 540 units and 7,400 square feet of ground-floor retail. Google plans a new neighborhood of offices, homes, restaurants and shops near the Diridon train station.Jay Paul Co. is seeking tenants for a gleaming new office highrise at 200 Park Ave.
