The Canadian Union of Public Employees , is alleging the city fired Ken Turner, president of Local 2099, for"union activity". The union was on strike for 11 weeks this past summer. -Photo by Joe Gibbons/The TelegramThe Canadian Union of Public Employees is alleging the City of Mount Pearl terminated a staff member for union-related activity.
The city said the workers had created unsafe conditions, while the union said they were being punished for normal strike activity. Tension between the striking workers and the city got high at times, with wages and sick leave also on the table during negotiations.
