Another south-central Pennsylvania sheriff's office has issued a scam warning about someone impersonating a deputy.News 8 On Your Side has told you about this type of scam before, and we'll keep telling you about it.It targets viewers throughout the Susquehanna Valley, and people keep falling for it.The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office wants to make residents aware that someone claiming to be with the office is making calls.
The caller ID shows the correct phone number of the sheriff's office.The caller tells the victim to go somewhere immediately but keeps them on the phone so the victim can't verify if the call is legitimate. The caller directs the resident to pay through a gift card, or money wire transfer – always the sign of a scam.The Cumberland County Court Administrators' Office does call residents who fail to appear for jury duty, not the sheriff's office.
